Hospital staff have identified the victims as a nurse, a woman and a child aged 12 months, but local residents told CNN the children were aged between 8 and 11 years old.
They called the news the worst disaster in the town, some 30 miles (50 km) south of Bangkok, since the quake seven years ago.
“There is no way you can take a child away,” said a mother whose child was among the dead. “How can you say you are going to let them live? We have been waiting for some time for a long time for these children to be safe,” she said.
“I am scared to go to the hospital. But I love my children. My children are my life.”
In the basement, police found a coffin and a casket, with an inscription in Thai language on one side reading “Sister, son, brother, friend, brother-in-law, and best uncle” in English, “I love you dearly”.
